What are cookies?
Cookies are files that can be downloaded to your device through websites. They are essential tools for delivering many services in the information society. Among other things, they allow a website to store and retrieve information about a user’s browsing habits or their device, and, depending on the information obtained, they can be used to recognize the user and improve the service provided.
Types of cookies
Depending on the entity that manages the domain from which cookies are sent and processes the data obtained, two types can be distinguished:
First-party cookies: These are sent to the user’s device from a computer or domain managed by the website’s editor and from which the requested service is provided.
Third-party cookies: These are sent to the user’s device from a computer or domain not managed by the editor, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.
If cookies are installed from a computer or domain managed by the editor but the information collected through them is managed by a third party, they cannot be considered first-party cookies.
There is also a second classification based on how long the cookies remain stored in the user's browser:
Session cookies: Designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a website. They are typically used to store information that only needs to be retained for the duration of the service requested by the user (e.g., a list of purchased products).
Persistent cookies: The data remains stored on the user’s device and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the cookie’s owner, ranging from a few minutes to several years.
Finally, there is another classification with six types of cookies based on the purpose for which the obtained data is used:
Technical cookies: Allow the user to navigate a website, platform, or application and use various features such as controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted areas, remembering items in a shopping cart, completing purchase processes, signing up for events, using security elements while browsing, storing content for video or audio sharing, or sharing content on social media.
Personalization cookies: Enable the user to access the service with some general predefined characteristics based on criteria such as language, browser type, or regional configuration.
Analytics cookies: Allow the cookie owner to monitor and analyze user behavior on linked websites. The information collected is used to measure website activity, applications, or platforms, and to create user browsing profiles to improve the service based on usage data.
Advertising cookies: Allow for the most efficient possible management of advertising spaces.
Behavioral advertising cookies: Store user behavior information gathered through continuous observation of their browsing habits, allowing the development of a specific profile to display ads based on it.
External social media cookies: Used so that visitors can interact with content from different social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and are generated only for users of these networks. The usage conditions and information collected are governed by the privacy policies of the respective social media platforms.

The method for disabling cookies varies depending on the browser but is usually accessible via the Tools or Options menu. You can also check your browser’s Help menu for instructions.
